If you have not heard it, nonverbal communication represents a whooping 93 percent of the entire communication you engage in daily. Media outlets, students and lots of scientific magazines have been quoting this percentage since it shows the extent of communication without opening your mouth and where it can take you or not. This number comes from a Dr Mehrabian who is known for writing the popular book Silent Messages.

After doing a number of studies on communications that were wholly nonverbal, he came to realize that about 7 percent of all messages are passed over using words with 38 percent conveyed through some vocal elements while 55 percent are communicated through postures, gestures, facial expressions and others that form nonverbal elements. If 7 percent is subtracted, which represent the use of words, 93 percent will remain indicating that a very small amount of messages is spoken.

Nonetheless, it is not easy to study the behaviour of a human being due to challenges that come up. Research methodology used to study nonverbal behaviours and the complexity of human nature make 93 percent to be a quantification that could be skewed. However, the truth is the exact number is utterly irrelevant since even without research you understand how important this form of communication is. In fact, of all types of communications that take place today, nonverbal is the most important.

People have a way of knowing who you are, how you behave, level of pride, behaviour and many other cues that reflect who you are through non-spoken communication. It is what people use to determine whether you are fearful and the estimate a girl uses to weigh your confidence once you approach her. Apart of knowing daily communication is 60 to 90 percent nonverbal communication, know how you can enhance this method to communicate better and leave a lasting impression.
